The political support group of the Labour Party, the Tamils for Labour (TfLab) held its first Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 10th of April 2021 at 2pm following its last AGM in 2013. The AGM discussed several organisational matters including action plans, which also conducted a democratic election of a new Executive Committee and Office bearers including its Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Vice Secretary, Treasurer and five Regional Coordinators. A ten-member Executive Committee was formed to manage the day to day running of the support group and deliver the Tamils for Labour’s objectives. Resultantly, the organisation relaunched with a firm commitment to work with the Labour Party for promoting accountability, justice and peace with lasting political solution for the Tamil people in Sri Lanka. The Tamils for Labour note the significantly positive contributions, and momentum built by the Labour Party towards this human rights crisis, including the Backbench Business Committee Debate in March 2021 organised by Siobhain McDonagh Member of Parliament for Mitcham & Morden and participated in the debate by many Labour MPs who expressed robust support for their constituents’ concerns over the situation in Sri Lanka. In working closely together with the Labour Party, the Tamils for Labour hope to bolster the support for the Labour Party as a support organisation.
